Do you think that the college admissions process is unfair to disadvantaged students?

I already know that colleges "love" to have students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. However, do you think it’s odd that most people who go to highly selective colleges come from well-to-do families? IMO, it really shows that the admissions process is slanted in favor of wealthier students. What do you think?

I agree with that. Students with money go to better schools with better resources and end up with better grades, therefor getting into better colleges, it is an unfortunate cycle and I see it where I live all the time. We are in the lower end, most of the students here are in packed schools and don’t end up going to very good colleges, though some do. So I don’t think that it is directly because they have money, just because of what their money has gotten them. It is easy to do well in school if your parents can send you to a great private high school and can afford to hire you a tutor!

What’s the purpose of raising college tuition for out-of-state students?

Also (you can answer both or one…) I have very close family in a state that I want to go to college in. Is there any way to get in-state tuition prices?

Raising tuition raises funds. Doing it to out-of-state students is an easy call to make for political reasons. They can’t vote so even if they’re mad, there’s nothing they can really do about it.

You need to read the residency rules for each state you’re considering. They normally require a year or two of living in that state before they consider you a resident. You can try using your family’s address to gain residency if you’re still early in high school. However, some schools consider you to be out-of-state if you went to high school in another state, no matter what state you list as your "home".

Where can I find easy college scholarships?

I go on fastweb.com and I don’t think they have a very large selection. When I was in high school (soph in college now) they told us there were scholarships for people with green eyes, freckles etc. Where are these? I will write but I just wish that these weren’t so complicated. Thanks and thanks so much!

try broadening your search or your personal infromation on fastweb. even if you aren’t planning on majoring in some areas of have interest in them, you may can find some more scholarships that way. i have actually found a scholarship that they gave out for being left handed (even though im not i just found it)… they had a scholarship on there ofr having asthma, and there is another scholarship thing on there called brickfish that always has some of the easiest ones like sending in a pic of your fav time of the year, fav toy, fav pairs of shoes.. i get those kinds all the time. i dont know how but i get em and you can enter a pic more than once to incease your chances

What college courses should I take for a career in Hospitality?

What college courses should I take for a career in Hospitality?
I work at the Hilton and I wanted to move up and start a career there……what kind of classes should I take for a career in Hospitality?

I manage hotels and have bene in hospitality for 8 years.

Some colleges/universitys have Hopitality degrees. But, hands on can be a great teacher, maybe even better. Learning not only customer service and customer care by being in front of the customer eevery day is the first step. If I were you I would take advantage of the job you have and try to volunteer for projects by the mnagers to help you get exposed to things like Competitive Shops, Supply ordering, and Credit card charge backs. All of these tasks are time consuming but if you can help with things like this, it will give you exposure to more aspects of hotels.

But be aware. The hospiality industry is not for everyone. SOmetime long hours and working more than 5 days a week. A hotel is like a 24 hour business and the further you get up the food chain, the more challenging it will be. But, either you love it or hate it.

I got my degree in Bus. Management. Like it or not, finance is needed so you can manage expenses and maximize revenue. Econmics so you can understand rates vs. supply.

Is College Admissions Assistance workshop a legitimate workshop?

i reacently got a letter in the mail from College Admissions Assistance telling me to go to their "free" seminar so is it ok?

They will want money, but if you want to go check it out it wouldn’t hurt to try, see what they are talking about, just don’t dish out any money to them.
