I need to know what college courses to take in order to become a criminal profiler. Any ideas?

I’m a high school junior, and have a year until I graduate. I’m not sure what courses I need to take in college in order to become a criminal profiler, nor do I know what degree I would need. My ultimat goal is to wark with the FBI, though I know that is a long way away. I was wondering if anybody knew the steps it takes to at least be on my way?

When my daughter was in college she was interested in doing that. She found out that the only way to be a criminal profiler is to join the FBI and you have to work your way up to that position. Taking criminology and psychology will help prepare you for that. Get as many of those type classes as you can. Start looking at the FBI website and look at what they require for employment and see what the job descriptions are and this should help you decide if that is really what you want to do. Remember, you are young and it’s OK to change your mind. But explore all options. Good Luck!

Is it okay to use contractions in a letter to a college admissions officer?

I know usually you should never use contractions in any formal writing, but I think it would seem a little less robotic and more humanizing if I let up a little bit on that.

Like for example, here’s my first sentence:
"I’d like to start off by thanking you for considering me as a potential candidate for admission for the upcoming fall semester."

Will it be acceptable to use a few contractions here and there?

Am I worrying way too much about this? If I am it’s just because I really, really want to get into this college. Being on the wait list is killing me!

Contractions, as a whole, should generally be used for more informal writing. Your college admissions letter should be far from this casual so I would recommend that you steer clear of contractions, in this situation.

I do think that following up with the admissions officer is an excellent idea … this will show enthusiasm and interest on your part to get into your desired program.

Oh yes! I’m with "kvh" with her suggestion to just lead with the sentence, "Thank you for considering …" (it’s stronger and less "klunky").

If i get a ROTC scholarship, will it pay for most of my college tuition?

And do i have to join the military on active duty after college and completing the ROTC thing to get the free tuition? if so,,for how long?

What exactly is my status in the military if i get a ROTC? reserve?
I am 18 and planning on using the ROTC for all four years of college and be debt free when i get out.

If you did not get a HSSP scholarship, you do not have the freshman option.

Depends on how much your tuition is, whether we pay all of it or not.

A Type I scholarship pays the whole tuition, even if you go to Harvard.
A Type II pays up to $7500 a semester-if your tuition is $8K, you still need to scare up $500.
A type 7 pays up to $4500 a semester.

Most people have a 4 year obligation after they commission. Medical students, pilots, navigators, ABMs have a longer committment. Everybody has some kind of commitment.

Contract cadets are in the Obligated Reserves. The way I explain this to the cadets is, the only way they are ever going to call up Obligated Reserves is if everybody else is dead.

Hope this helps.

Estimate the Cost of Living for Attending College

When you plan to attend university or college, you do have to estimate how much money you will need for a term of studies. To estimate the cost of living you have to plan for all types of expenses and have some emergency money for times when unexpected expenses crop up. You have to first think about the tuition costs of attending post-secondary schools, which means that if it doesn matter where you attend school you can look for various schools that offer the courses you want at the cheapest price. This does mean that there will be additional transportation costs involved if you have to fly to another location and it will mean that you won get home for visits as often.

In order to estimate how much money you will need to attend university or college, you have to include first and foremost the cost of your tuition and books. This will be your greatest expense, but it is one that you definitely must have in order to obtain an education that will prepare you for your job. Then you have to look at the cost of housing. Most universities have residences for students that are much cheaper than renting an apartment. The cost can also include all your food, if this is what you want. In this way, you pay all your immediate expenses upfront and you only have to budget for clothing and entertainment. Since you will be living on campus, you won have to bother with budgeting for daily transportation getting back and forth to school.

You may have an opportunity to rent an apartment with a group of friends if you don like the prospect of moving into a dorm room with people you don’t know. The rent should be comparable to that of the cost of the room once you evenly divide the total monthly rent by the number of people sharing the apartment of house. You will have to estimate how much money you will need for food, though, as you will have to buy your own groceries. One way in which you can do this is to have one of your parents sit with you to plan a menu and then see how much it costs. With renting an apartment, you may also have to pay your own energy bills, as well as your own telephone, television and Internet expenses.

You can go online to see the cost of living in the city where you plan to attend school to find out if it is higher or lower than where you live. Many locations five student discounts so you need to check these out to see where you can save money. Some of the things that many college students forget to include when they want to estimate how much their cost of living will be include the cost of getting your hair cut, laundry costs, cosmetics and personal hygiene needs. Although they do not seem to be very important, they can certainly add up over time.

Three Easy Ways To Pay Your Way Through College

Education today is more expensive than it has ever been. In order to even be able to consider taking some post-secondary education you need to have the financial backing to do so. In fact, many students plan on working part or even full time while they go to school, but this can quickly lead to disaster because the student will be so busy that they will suffer burnout and be unable to juggle their responsibilities.

1. Money From Parents

The oldest, tried and tested method of paying your way through college is by getting money from mom and dad. Of course, nowadays this is more and more uncommon. Some parents invest in educational plans to surpass the heavy burden they might encounter later on.

2. Passport To Education

As a special incentive for having a B or better grade point average (typically, 75 percent or better overall GPA) you may be rewarded by your highschool by a grant that does not have to be repayed. The good news is, it’s free money but the bad news is that it is usually for very small amounts of money, $300 or so – barely enough to cover one class and the cost of one textbook. Still, something is better than nothing and you can’t argue with things that are free.

3. Scholarship Grants

Scholarship grants are a great way to finance your way through your post secondary education as they can pay for up to the complete amount that you require to go to school. The downside is that you will have to adhere to strict rules or else you might lose the scholarship entirely. College scholarships may be in a form of academic scholarship, athletic scholarships and other forms. There are also college scholarships that are funded by the government.

4. Ask Your Academic Advisor

Both your highschool academic advisor and the advisors at the post secondary school you plan on attended should be consulted. They are often a wealth of information and will be able to provide more information concicely about the subject that you are interested in than you would otherwise be able to achieve by yourself, given the same amount of time. Plus, theyre always free to consult and a simple consultation might save you lots of trouble in the long run.
