Fall 09 im going to get my GED and I want to pusue becoming a psychiatrist. But im confused about what bachelor’s degree I need. Should I get a bachelor’s degree in psychology? And also should I take college credit courses before going for my bachelor’s degree, such as: (since I did not finish high school)

pre-calculus
anatomy and physiology
psychology
biology
chemistry

Or is that not really needed?

Any answers would help, thanks.

A psychiatrist is a physician (MD), you will need to get into medical school (pre-med in college). With a GED, you had better have a very high GPA in college. Entrance to medical school is highly competitive.

A psychologist needs a PhD, and to get into a good program, you will also need to be an exceptional student. Although there are PhD programs of lesser quality, but you will still have to pass state license exams to practice.
