I will be going to college soon and I am trying to figure out what courses I should take to become a game designer. Maybe creative writing or something? Does anybody have a list or any idea at all for what courses I should take?
Thanks!

I dont have a list or anything, but heres my “two cents worth” as people always say. I dont think a creative writing course would be especialy useful. I think more computer based stuff would be better. You don’t need to do a creative writing course to write good stories (well at least not to have good ideas) but you probably do need to do a course on computer graphics etc.
One of my friends is starting to get into some kind of games/ideas/development type career i think, and his expertise is digital art. he draws out ideas then uses photoshop to turn it into proper “concepts” of characters and backgrounds and stuff, then works with those.
I dont know how much you like computers, but i think lots of programming, and lots of digital art (photography, manipulations, graphic design etc) would be most useful. Then any good story ideas you have will be a bonus on top of that, and you will be able express them properly (digitally) as well.

Do not waste your college years studying “Game Design”. You will severely pigeon-hole yourself. Game design/programming is rapidly going offshore where (American) design companies can easily find very good programmers for $3/hr.
What you really should do is get a good flexible degree in Software Engineering Technology or Computer Engineering Technology.
