I’m a junior in high school right now and I was curious as to when I should start applying for scholarships?
There is no such thing as too soon. Most scholarships specify who’s allowed to apply based on things such as year in school, GPA, proposed major, hair color, etc, so make a list of scholarships you currently qualify for and those you will be able to apply for in the future. Then just stay on top of things, and keep cranking out the applications. Some allow you to apply from the moment you’re born, and the money is simply set aside until you start going to college. I’m including two reputable search engines for scholarships, but you can also google "scholarship finder" for more help. I’ve known people who financed their entire education based on finding obscure scholarships, such as one for heavily freckled girls of Irish ancestry. The money is out there, good luck finding it.

Most college scholarships are for high school seniors and college freshmen. You should be able to find some scholarships now as a high school junior. Definitely start looking now though. Even if you don’t qualify right now, you can have an idea of what you need to do to qualify next year or the year after that. Alot of scholarships ask for your ACT/SAT scores so make sure you take those or retake them for a better score for a better chance at scholarships. Good luck!

Start researching possible scholarships. Be sure to note the requirements, filing deadlines, etc. That should tell you when to file what for each one you’re interested in. Better to start early while you have time to make plan!

Applying for scholarships will be based totally on the criteria of the specific scholarship. If the critieria is for High School Seniors only then you can’t apply until you have reached 12th grade.
The trick to successfully taking advantage of scholarships is to know ahead of time what is available and be sure to make those deadlines… whenever they are.
Check out http://www.livingwellgrants.com They are professional scholarship researchers (as seen on CNBC) and they will locate all the scholarships that fit YOUR needs and provide you with a portfolio so that you can get to work right away applying, instead of waisting a lot of time searching!
